How Peachcroft Christian Centre came to be and what we're doing here now!
In the 1970s, an anonymous donor gave £20,000 to establish an inter-denominational Christian presence on the emerging housing estates of north-east Abingdon. In 1987 the Christian Centre was completed.
The membership soon grew to over 50 adults and 30 children & young people and the centre has been a hive of activity ever since, especially among young families. At Peachcroft, four different traditions (Baptist, Church of England, Methodist and United Reformed Churches) come together as one church. Our desire is to show that unity exists among Christians. For us, putting our Christian faith into practice is far more important than any one brand of Christianity. In 2007 the building was greatly extended. This has given us a much larger multi-purpose area for worship and facilities to enable us to serve the community and hence God to a far greater extent through a wide variety of activities. We are not stuffy or old fashioned and we try to integrate children in every aspect of what we do. If you wanted to give us a label, most of us see ourselves as evangelical Christians. This means, for example, that we believe the Bible is important and the only reliable source of truth about God and that a personal response to the love of Jesus is essential to becoming a Christian. We believe that God is at work in his world today. Therefore we desire to see people's lives wonderfully changed and made whole through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our prayer is that each of us draws closer to God, to know and love him better. |
